Artist Statement

My paintings are an intuitive and spontaneous expression of the essence of the subject, be it a person, a landscape or a still life.  To quote Henri Matisse, “I do not literally paint that table, but the emotion it produces upon me.”

I love color and texture and aspire to enrich the viewer with the poetry and beauty that surrounds us.

I travel to various locations and paint in pleine-air, applying a pallet knife in an impasto technique. I use similar techniques when I paint larger works in my studio, using my plein-air color notes.  My portraits are usually from life.

This is a photo of me painting outdoors in Brittany, France.

My favorite artists are Monet, Matisse, van Gogh, Bonnard, Vuillard and Klimt. Their works present vivid colors, texture, patterns and light that inspire me.

My works are in many private collections.
